Take stock of the situation and plan a better future in the poplar sector

We are dealing with poplar farmers and FSC certification: the two farmers that have been involved in our management scheme and certified last year are experiencing some troubles meeting the requirements of FSC standard.

For this reason, and to take stock of the opinions and feelings of the different stakeholders after more than a year since the pilot agreement, the group felt the need to discuss the PES and its improvability. There was therefore an interesting discussion about the technical aspects and the difficulties that some of the stakeholders are facing.

With this aim, a risk mitigation plan was drawn up with the help of all the actors to help those most in difficulty. We foresee to sell CO2 to create a supplementary income, to lower some management costs, to complete the risk analysis for the use of Cypermethrin against poplar for spring treatment and to try to negotiate a higher selling price.

This strategy will allow us to consolidate the already activated PES and strengthen the replication opportunities.
