A workshop on two key aspects of forest ecosystem services focused on engaging small plot holders for forestry innovation and on cultural and spiritual ecosystem services from Asian and European perspectives.
A map of innovative ways in which forests are being employed and managed to provide benefits to people has been launched by the Spurring INnovations for forest eCosystem sERvices in Europe (SINCERE) project. The map is based on an Inventory of Innovative Mechanisms (IM) produced by partners in the project, which highlights good practices at a European scale that could be replicable elsewhere. Innovations for the services that forests provide to society are the focus of a new European project funded under Horizon 2020. Responding to society’s demands for services such as wood production, recreation, biodiversity provision and carbon storage, the project will look at innovative ways to value and implement such “forest ecosystem services”.
