2018

January – Kick-off meeting & 1st General Assembly

The SINCERE project starts here, where a substantial number of relevant innovation mechanisms (IM) ideas are first introduced by the case study partners.

June – Knowledge Map Workshop

Researchers meet to coordinate the working paper synthesising first results and the inventory of Innovation Mechanisms in Europe. This information is crucial to support the Co-Design Process that will select the innovation cases of the project.

September/October – 1st Regional Multi-Actor Group (MAG) Meetings (Co-Design Workshops)

An intense dialogue between case study partners and stakeholders to brainstorm suitable mechanisms, policies or business models for the Innovation Actions (IA). Establishes a roadmap for IA implementation, identifying related challenges as well as preliminary criteria for the evaluation and assessment of IA implementation.

2019

January – Co-Design Event

Brings together scientists and practice partners from the whole consortium and relevant European stakeholders to initiate the regional innovation actions and provide the tools for their support and self-assessment. Will be a central node of the SINCERE Learning Architecture.

January – 2nd General Assembly

Each General Assembly includes the SINCERE Talks Series where selected keynote speakers, such as philosophers, scientists from the humanities or environmentalists, are invited to engage in critical reflections regarding Innovation Mechanisms for ecosystem services provision.

February – 2nd Regional Multi-Actor Group (MAG) Meetings (Co-Implementation Workshops)

Case study partners and stakeholders meet to track the progress of the Innovation Actions’ implementation, identifying and addressing new challenges and issues as they emerge.

November – 3rd Regional Multi-Actor Group (MAG) Meetings (Co-Learning Workshops)

Case study partners and stakeholders identify a set of issues to be addressed by “cross-fertilisation activities” and inform on progress to date.

2020

February – Webinars

Webinars for Innovation Action stakeholders and the broader forest and conservation community, aiming to extend capacity-building activities beyond immediate project partners.

April – Virtual Business & Marketing Clinic sessions

Tailored to each Innovation Action (IA), the sessions support IA partners to develop the business language and approach required for profitable business models.

August – Focus Group Discussion Event

Gives emphasis to a creative conversational atmosphere to address major political obstacles related to Innovation Mechanisms and to explore innovative ways to overcome them. Brings together policymakers and practical innovation partners.

August – Focus Group

Brings together policymakers and practical innovation partners to compare and align perspectives on the need for policy coordination and discuss ways to overcome critical inhibiting factors related to policy disintegration that inhibit Innovation Mechanisms.

December – Virtual Business & Marketing Clinic sessions

Tailored to each Innovation Action (IA), the sessions enable innovators to interact with the business community so that business language is embedded into the concept of ecosystem services and specifically into the Innovation Mechanisms developed in the IA.

December – Final Regional Multi-Actor Group (MAG) Meetings (Co-Evaluation Workshop)

Case study partners and stakeholders conduct a self-assessment of the Innovation Action in each case based on the criteria and guidance provided, as well as discussing the potential for upscaling and/or replicating the experience in other areas.

2021

February – Webinars

Webinars for Innovation Action stakeholders and the broader forest and conservation community, aiming to extend capacity-building activities beyond immediate project partners.

April – 4th General Assembly

Brings together the entire consortium to reflect on the lessons learnt from the implementation of the Innovation Actions and from the multi-actor engagement process. Also includes the SINCERE Talks Series where keynote speakers engage in critical reflections regarding Innovation Mechanisms for ecosystem services provision.

April – Synthesis Workshop

Workshop to discuss lessons learnt from the economic, social and environmental sustainability assessment, contributing to a synthesis on Innovation Action implementation.

June – International Conference

Brings together research and practice partners and policy- and decision-makers from inside Europe with key stakeholders from outside Europe. The conference juxtaposes the experiences, findings and lessons learnt across all Innovation Actions with state-of-the-art scientific and practical knowledge about developing and implementing Innovation Mechanisms (IM). Also part of the SINCERE Talks Series where keynote speakers engage in critical reflections regarding IM for ecosystem services provision.

June – SynPol Event (SYNthesising results and delivering POLicy recommendations)

A structured science-policy-practice interaction to develop concrete and targeted suggestions for European forest policy. Brings together practitioners, scientists and policymakers from all levels to interpret project findings and derive joint policy-related recommendations.

June – Communicating Ecosystem Services

A training workshop for journalists and project beneficiaries, preceding the International Conference, that juxtaposes the experiences, findings and lessons learnt across all Innovation Actions with state-of-the-art scientific and practical knowledge about developing and implementing Innovation Mechanisms.
