In times of climate change there will be land restoration and navigating uncertainty and planning for adaptation requires new knowledge systems. The emergence of new ecosystems presents a challenge for land restoration; these ecosystems bring with them unknowns that we do not yet know.

This brief presents research linking land restoration and societal adaptation, and offers an example of a practical framework for transformative adaptation. It also proposes some questions that can guide stakeholders in exploring different narratives of change related to adaptation and planning for restoration.
