SINCERE project finished on 31 March 2022. Catch up on what went on!

Final SINCERE paper assesses the state and prospects of forest ecosystem services provision in Europe

A major paper presents policy-relevant findings to support multiple forest ecosystem services in Europe. The paper provides ideas on how future European forest governance could align FES demand and supply in the light of three challenges: climate change adaptation; biodiversity crisis; and the need to move towards a sustainable bioeconomy.

What are forest ecosystem services?

We can think of Forest Ecosystem Services (FES) as the contribution made by forests to people.

FES are forest products and services that bring direct or indirect advantage to people, whether economically, materially, health-wise, emotionally or socially.

Examples of FES include edible and non-edible products that come from trees or grow in forests; water, air and soil quality; hunting, fishing, tourism and leisure activities; and nutrient and water cycling.
